If you’ve been here before you know how it works. Once a year, we ask readers to submit a book recommendation. It can be anything at all. If it has an ISBN, it’s a book.

Imagine you’re a bookseller and a person has come into your store because they need to buy a book for someone who reads widely, has read practically everything, and price is no object. They just need a good book. Preferably something newish.
