The Advent Book Elves

The Advent Book Blog is a volunteer-driven viral book recommendation blog.

No ads, no payola – just 25 days of great books recommended by great people.

These are the people who volunteer to make the Advent Book Blog a reality this year:

The Advent Book Elves:

Trisha Causley is a writer and undisciplined gardener living in the suburban wilds north of Toronto, Ontario.

A reformed all-around bossy girl, Trisha now restricts herself to being overly concerned with what people read and eat.

Nico Mara-McKay is a writer living in Toronto.

Her essays and reviews have appeared in several magazines, including Konton, PanGaia and Trigger93, and her poetry has been published or is forthcoming in Line Zero, Contemporary Verse 2 and The Antigonish Review, among other journals.

She can be found online at http://nicomaramckay.com.

Carmel Purkis is a writer, editor and researcher who lives in Ottawa. She joined the Advent Book Blog in its second year and almost didn’t make it back for 2011, occupied with pursuing fine pastries across great rivers from the Spree to the Seine to the Thames. But after Abe tracked her down by the River Uck, hoarding a stack of great books & salted caramels, she’s back!

Kimberly Walsh is the digital & online coordinator at Nimbus Publishing & Vagrant Press, formerly an associate producer at CBC Books and Canada Reads.

You can follow her on Twitter @AliasGrace or check out her blog East Coast By Choice.

The Creators of the Advent Book Blog:

Named by Open Book Toronto as one of their favourite Rabble-Rousers, Julie Wilson is the Literary Voyeur behind SeenReading.com, The Madam at Book Madam & Associates and the Host of CanadianBookshelf.com. Julie’s short fiction collection, Seen Reading, will publish with Freehand Books in April 2012. Follow her on Twitter: @BookMadam and @SeenReading.

Sean Cranbury lives and works in east Vancouver. He is the Host and Executive Editor at Books on the Radio, Curator of the W2 Real Vancouver Writers’ Series, co-creator of the Advent Book Blog and former independent bookseller.

He works as an independent consultant and strategist for organizations in arts and health care.

You can follow him on twitter: @seancranbury and @booksontheradio.

Abe the Advent Book Elf: Wanted on 3 continents for a variety of crimes ranging from impersonating a kangaroo to laundering postage stamps that had already been licked to making cheese fonts without a license, Abe is the backbone of the Advent Book Blog.

He’s a world class mixologist specializing in cocktails that feature Jamaican Spiced Rum. He has placed as high as 7th in the Iditarod and is the proud owner of two temperamental snow dogs.

Abe is the Executive Editor of all Advent Book Blog posts and the coordinator of all correspondence. He likes watching the Detroit Red Wings on TV just to make you angry.
