The Recommend
Erica Baum’s Dog Ear is my poetry pick of the year.
A full-colour sampling of Baum’s photographs of dog-eared texts, Dog Ear is a textbook example of how poetry can re-charge the mundane. With each page, Baum creates a new text by revealing poetic possibilities of the folded corners of found pulp books.
With a forward by Kenneth Goldsmith and an afterword by Béatrice Gross, Dog Ear revels in how the quotidian motion of folding a corner can be entirely unexpected and generative.
Beautifully conceived and wonderfully photographed, Dog Ear is a treat.
