The Recommend
Outside the Box is an essential read for anyone interested in the history of magazine and broadcast journalism in Canada, and an excellent record of Toronto’s mid-20th century literati. But Maria Meindl’s biography of her grandmother, poet and broadcaster Mona Gould, is fundamentally a story about family ties, and how we define ourselves within and without such bounds. Meindl’s writing is brave and unflinching, and the entire book is captivating.
